Tomb of Tihocan is level 9 of the 1996 Tomb Raider and the end of Greece: Lara falls in from the Cistern, works through flooded passages, block puzzles and a subterranean lake to the tomb of the Atlantean ruler Tihocan, fights the two centaur statues that guard it, and kills Pierre DuPont, who drops the second piece of The Scion, a Gold Key and his magnums. It has 2 secrets, 26 pickups and 17 kills (crocodiles, rats, a lion, gorillas, the two centaurs and Pierre), by Stella's count. After it, the story moves to Egypt. Who was Tihocan?
Tihocan ruled Atlantis with Qualopec and Natla. After the two of them imprisoned Natla, Tihocan hid her piece of the Scion in the City of Khamoon in Egypt and was buried with his own under St. Francis' Folly, guarded by two Atlantean centaurs. Pierre DuPont, who has taunted Lara through Greece and left his mark with a can of beans, dies here, and Crystal Dynamics notes that both he and Larson end up resting where two of the Scion pieces were kept. The tomb also holds the clues that point Lara to Egypt.
Walkthrough
The order below follows Stella's Remastered walkthrough.
- The flooded entrance. Lara lands in a flooded passage from the Cistern. Swim the long tunnel, pull the underwater lever to drain it, and use the switch on dry land to open a door.
- The floating block room. Kill the crocodile and climb to the ledges on top of the blocks, avoiding the darts. A switch raises the water so a block floats up to the next passage.
- The current. A second underwater lever speeds the current in a long passage; ride it to a room where Lara can surface.
- The tall room with a swinging blade. Climb the ledges. Pierre appears beyond the right doorway and vanishes when Lara breaks his line of sight. Pass the chomping blades on their second clang.
- The crocodile and pressure pads. In the mossy room below the stairs, step on the three hidden pressure pads to open the first secret.
- The spikes and the first Gold Key. A switch opens a door; kill the gorillas and take the Gold Key from the room above the spikes. Its keyhole in the long pool room raises blocks to cross the pool.
- The block rooms. Push a block across inscribed tiles to open doors, collect the two Rusty Keys and dodge the boulder. The keys open the final door, onto a ramp down a long chute; the second secret is off the chute.
- The underground lake. Get past a crocodile, use a high switch to open an underwater gate, and follow the flooded tunnel to the tomb side.
- The tomb. An underwater passage leads to a switch that opens the tomb and wakes the centaurs. The first comes to life as Lara approaches; the second when she returns to the entrance after passing the red pillars.
- Pierre. The final fight is in the tomb's main room. Killed there, he stays dead and drops the second Gold Key, the Scion piece and his magnums.
- Tihocan's resting place. The second Gold Key, in the keyhole on the north wall, opens the south door. Go in to finish the level.
Secrets
| Secret | Where | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The mossy room with a crocodile, opened by 3 hidden pressure pads; backflip onto the slope and spring across 3 angled blocks to the ledge | Large medi pack and shotgun shells |
| 2 | Slide down the long chute facing downhill, jump left at the pointed rock onto a small ledge, then cross 5 breakaway tiles in sequence to the alcove | Magnum clips and Uzi clips |

Save before the chute: the jump to the ledge comes fast. With 2 secrets it has the fewest of any Greek level.
Beating the centaurs and Pierre
The centaurs are statues that come to life, the first Atlantean creatures Lara fights. They wake one at a time, so Lara never has to face both at once, and Stella's walkthrough gives several ways to fight them. Pierre, who could only be driven off before, dies for good if killed in the tomb's main room. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered shows boss health bars. Stella's "Deadline" achievement note asks the player to let Pierre kill Lara at the save point outside the tomb.
Original and Remastered
The level is the 1996 one. Stella added a different way to reach the second secret after the March 2024 Remastered update; her archived classic walkthrough gives another.
Tihocan in Legacy of Atlantis
No official text names Tihocan's tomb in the remake as of Nov 2, 2026. Amazon Game Studios says Greece only "hinted at centaur combat" in what has been shown, and no boss other than the T-Rex has been named. Whether Pierre DuPont returns has not been announced. See What's New in Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider Characters.
