Lara's Home
Lara's Home is the optional training level of the 1996 Tomb Raider, set in Croft Manor, where Lara's own voice teaches jumping, swan dives, ledge grabs, shimmying and swimming in her music room, hall, ballroom gym and pool. It has no enemies and no secrets.
Lara's Home is the training level of the 1996 Tomb Raider: an optional tour of Croft Manor, started from the Polaroid photo on the main menu, in which Lara herself speaks the instructions for jumps and flips, swan dives, vaulting, running jumps, ledge grabs, shimmying, safety drops and swimming. There are no enemies, weapons or secrets, and it does not lead into Caves: it ends when Lara climbs out of her pool. GameSpot's 1996 review summed it up as Lara taking players through her house, into her gym, and tutoring them. The clip is Josh Strife Plays on the 1996 PlayStation version.

What it teaches, room by room
In the 1996 game Lara cannot go outside: the tour starts in her library, and Lara, barefoot and in gym clothes, talks straight to the player. The rooms, in Stella's order:
| Room | Lesson |
|---|---|
| Music room | Jump alone goes straight up; Jump with a direction flips Lara forward, back or sideways |
| Main hall | A swan dive from the railing onto a crate, and a vault onto a short crate |
| Ballroom, ramp 1 | Look around with the Look control |
| Ballroom, ramps 2 and 4 | Running jumps, grabbing ledges with Action |
| Ballroom, ramp 3 | A hop back before a running jump, to get the full distance |
| Ballroom, ramp 5 | Ledge grabs, shimmying sideways, and the safety drop, which lowers Lara from a ledge |
| Alcove past ramp 3 | A treasure chest (look, but no need to open it) |
| Swimming pool | Jump with a direction swims underwater; the air meter shows top left, and Lara drowns when it runs out |

The ballroom, which Lara has turned into her gym, is built on the same grid as every level: Lara stands three-quarters of a block high, can jump up and grab a block and a half, and can make a run-and-grab jump over four blocks. The controls themselves are on Controls and Movement.
How does Lara's Home end?
Climb out of the pool at its south edge, below the Venus de Milo statue, with Action and forward. That ends the level. There is no butler in the 1996 game, so no one pulls Lara out if she drowns in the pool.
Original and Remastered
In the original, swimming sideways on the surface uses the separate sidestep buttons. In Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Lara side-strokes by holding Walk and pressing left or right, and modern controls can be switched on at any time. The Remastered version adds 3 achievements here: "Welcome to My Home!" for finishing every exercise, "Only the Brave Deserve The Fair" for a swan dive, and "Feast Your Eyes on This!" for walking up to the treasure chest. Stella notes that the climb out of the pool may need repeating before "Welcome to My Home!" registers. Aspyr's Mar 12, 2024 patch fixed cropped paintings in Lara's Home.
Croft Manor in later games
The manor grew with the series. In Tomb Raider 2 the ballroom was emptied and the grounds became playable, with an assault course for timed runs, a hedge maze with a timed switch, and a cellar holding treasures from her first adventure; Lara speaks only to correct a missed jump. Tomb Raider 3 combined an upgraded indoor gym, for sprinting and monkey bars, with the outdoor course, where Lara can use her pistols for the first time at home, Winston tests his bullet-deflecting tray, and a puzzle unlocks a quad bike racetrack. The Remastered collection has an achievement for locking Winston in the freezer.
Lara's Home in Legacy of Atlantis
Whether Croft Manor appears in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is not announced as of Nov 2, 2026. The remake's in-world fiction places Lara in London between regions, and it is not known whether that is playable. See What's New in Legacy of Atlantis.
