City of Khamoon is level 10 of the 1996 Tomb Raider and the first of its three Egypt levels: Lara crosses a buried desert city, takes a Sapphire Key from the top of a sphinx, fights her way through a cat temple and opens the gold doors to the exit with a second Sapphire Key. Stella's Tomb Raider Site counts 3 secrets, 24 pickups and 15 kills in the Remastered version. In the game's backstory, this is the city where the Atlantean ruler Tihocan hid Natla's piece of the Scion, which is why Lara comes here straight after Tomb of Tihocan. The clip is Look Back Gaming's playthrough of the 1996 game; Josh Strife Plays' clips below show the 1996 PlayStation version.

Walkthrough
The trench and the sphinx. From the start, a switch in an alcove opens a door in the trench below. Push the carved block there three times, take the magnum clips and small medi pack behind it, then push a second block over the first to climb to a higher opening. A black panther waits in the cave beyond. From a sandy hill overlooking the sphinx you can shoot the first mummy before it reaches you. The pool at the base of a pillar holds two sets of clips, and the green palm area leads up to shotgun shells on top of a carved pillar.
The first Sapphire Key. Climb onto the sphinx. Behind its head are more shells and the first Sapphire Key, in an alcove. Pull the block near the sphinx to uncover a locked door, which the key opens.
The pharaoh statues and the pool. The hall of pharaoh statues has a medi pack and a panther that leaps out between the statues, and a second panther charges down the sloping hallway beyond. Shoot the crocodile in the pool from above, drop into the long passage below for a large medi pack, and run or side-flip off the ramp when the boulder rolls. An underwater passage leads to a lever; a second crocodile follows. Pushing blocks and pulling switches extends a golden block and opens a trapdoor, and a mummy waits behind a movable block, so shoot it from a safe spot. Through a window you can see the second Sapphire Key on its pedestal, but you cannot reach it yet.
The cat temple. Rocky ledges lead past a third crocodile to the temple roof. Inside, the northwest alcove near the sand-colored tile is a spike trap. The south doorway has magnum clips and a switch that opens the ceiling; two panthers sit below. A running jump reaches the edge of the central platform (it is easier to line up with classic controls, Stella notes), and then four more panthers come out of the doors below. Medi packs lie in the dead-end passages they came from. The way on is the ledge above, over the wooden bridge.
The second Sapphire Key and the exit. A winding passage ends at a large sandy room with the third mummy. You can lure it onto the bridge, where it cannot follow, or fight it in the open with the shotgun. Then enter the raised southwest doorway and take the second Sapphire Key. Climb out, take the magnum clips, and use the switch that dumps sand into the room behind you. Safety-drop onto the slope below the opening, climb the slope beside it, and open the gold doors with the key to finish the level.
Where are the three secrets?
- The dark corner. In the northwest corner of the sandy area, in a dark dip beside a square pillar: a large medi pack and magnum clips.
- The temple roof. On the cat temple roof, stand on the front right angled block, aim Lara at the silver )O( ornament and jump to the ledge above the ramp. It holds Uzi clips. Drop from the left end of that ledge to avoid fall damage.
- Behind the cat statue. In the northwest corner of the temple's central platform, behind a cat statue: a box of shotgun shells.

Weapons in City of Khamoon
Lara should already have the pistols, the shotgun and the magnums. If the magnums were missed in Colosseum or later, Stella lists City of Khamoon among the places they turn up as a regular pickup. The Uzi clips from the second secret are only ammunition until the Uzis themselves turn up in Sanctuary of the Scion. See Weapons.
Khamoon in Legacy of Atlantis
Egypt is one of the four regions of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, out Feb 12, 2027, and the makers have shown part of it, though not this level by name. Their text calls the city Kamun, hidden within huge caves and canyons, while image file names on the same site still say "Temple of Khamoon", the 1996 spelling. What they have described: a temple to Anubis with a scales traversal puzzle, an Osiris trial, and new puzzles built around the Egyptian pantheon "to remove a lot of repetition" from the original. Level designer Mateusz Dzięcioł says Lara finds the leftovers of robbers, so she is not the first one into these tombs. The creatures described for Egypt are crawling cat mummies that throw fire, a mummy from a dropped sarcophagus and flying creatures; panthers and crocodiles have not been mentioned. All of this is from the makers before release, as of Nov 2, 2026. More on What's New in Legacy of Atlantis.
