Who is Natla in the 1996 Tomb Raider?
An Atlantean. Natla, Qualopec and Tihocan shared power over Atlantis and kept the Scion in three pieces, one each (Crystal Dynamics). Natla stole the other two pieces and used the Scion to breed mutants to overthrow her fellow rulers, turning a sacred pyramid into "a factory of aberrations". Qualopec and Tihocan captured her and sealed her in a cryonic freezing chamber for "breaking the three-bond of consent" of the Triumvirate; afterward a meteor and tidal waves buried the Great Pyramid (Crystal Dynamics).
In 1945 the Trinity atomic test in New Mexico freed her. She took the name Jacqueline Natla and founded Natla Technologies, which Crystal Dynamics places in Seattle, as a front for mining toward the buried pyramid.
What does Natla do in the 1996 game?
The game opens with her hiring Lara to find Vilcabamba and recover the first piece of the Scion, with Larson sent to tie up the loose end afterward. Lara survives the ambush, breaks into Natla Technologies and follows a monk's prayer book to Greece (Crystal Dynamics). After the third piece in Egypt, the trail leads to Natla's Mines, where Lara loses her weapons and has to beat the Cowboy, the Skater Boy and the bald henchman to win them back (Stella's Tomb Raider Site), and on into Atlantis, where she must reach the Scion and destroy it so Natla can never use it (Crystal Dynamics). The clip shows the 1996 PlayStation version.
In The Great Pyramid, Natla, fused with part of a winged Atlantean, fights Lara first flying and then on the ground; Lara defeats her and escapes as the pyramid explodes (Crystal Dynamics). Stella's Tomb Raider Site counts the fight in two phases. The clip shows the 1996 PlayStation version.
Natla in Anniversary and Underworld
Tomb Raider: Anniversary (2007) retold the 1996 story with Natla in the same part, and its team said it set out to clarify the original's "pretty sparse" plot and tie it to the story begun in Legend. In Tomb Raider: Underworld (2008) Lara confronts Natla once more and learns the truth about her mother's fate, closing what Legend began (Crystal Dynamics). Beyond that, the allowed sources read for this page do not detail her role in those two games, so it is not described here.
Natla in Legacy of Atlantis
The remake keeps her as Lara's rival and makes her a modern executive. In the official "Meet Natla" feature (Aug 31, 2026): In the clip, from the Jun 2026 release date trailer, a voice tells "Miss Croft" she is the one to hire for a retrieval, and a woman in a business suit appears on a tablet.
- She is the head of Natla Technologies and carries herself like a tech CEO who could run any boardroom; Experience Director Jeff Adams describes a wealthy woman who prefers others to do the work behind her success.
- She tries to recruit Lara, and Lara's refusal shocks her. Wilkinson says underestimating Lara "is what gets her into trouble".
- Narrative Director John Stafford calls her not unlike Lara: "usually the smartest person in the room".
- Alix Wilton Regan, who plays Lara, describes two powerful women with different motivations.
The official site's in-world fiction places Natla Technologies' headquarters in San Francisco's SoMa district, where the 1996 lore put it in Seattle (Amazon Game Studios). Whether that is playable is not known. Mercenaries of Natla's faction are a new enemy type, armed with assault rifles, shotguns and sniper rifles (Amazon Game Studios).
As of Nov 2, 2026 the makers have not said whether she is still an Atlantean in the remake, nor shown her final fight; the last regions, the island and Atlantis, have not been shown. See What's New in Legacy of Atlantis.

Stafford credits her with bringing warmth, intelligence and certainty to the part. The rest of the cast is on Tomb Raider Characters.
