Unfinished Business is the four-level expansion to the 1996 Tomb Raider, first released in the 1998 Gold edition for Windows and Mac, which sends Lara back to Egypt and Atlantis. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered includes it and plays it in a different order from the classic release.
Unfinished Business is the four-level expansion to the 1996 Tomb Raider: Return to Egypt, Temple of the Cat, Atlantean Stronghold and The Hive. It first came out in March 1998 in a "Gold" edition of the game for Windows, and for Mac for the first time, and it reached consoles only in Tomb Raider I-III Remastered on Feb 14, 2024. The Gold edition presented it as two "expert adventures", Shadow of the Cat (the two Egypt levels) and Unfinished Business (the two Atlantis levels); Crystal Dynamics now calls the whole set Unfinished Business, four bonus levels in two chapters, and so does this page. The two releases play the chapters in opposite orders.

Why are there two orders?
The Gold edition put Shadow of the Cat first, then the Atlantis pair. Tomb Raider I-III Remastered starts with the Atlantis pair instead, which Stella's Tomb Raider Site says is the order the developers originally intended. Story-wise the Remastered order follows straight on from The Great Pyramid: Lara learns some of Natla's creatures survived and goes back to Atlantis to destroy them, then returns to Khamoon to look for an undiscovered tomb of the cat goddess Bastet. Walkthroughs written before 2024 number the levels the classic way, so check which order a guide uses.

Atlantean Stronghold. Mutants of every type and an optional centaur, with the shotgun and magnums to pick up along the way.
The Hive. Lara opens doors on top of a pyramid-like structure, destroys Natla's remaining mutants in the hatcheries, and escapes through a gold door that stays open about 13 seconds. Its one secret is a large medi pack in a cave inside the lava pit. The Uzis are here.
Return to Egypt. The shotgun, magnums, Uzis and a Gold Key are all in this level, and some of the cat statues come alive as panthers or mummies. Avoiding every crocodile drops the kill count from 41 to 23, and earns the Remastered achievement "Crocodile Rock".
Temple of the Cat. Seven Ornate Keys, mummies, panthers and crocodiles. Lara climbs the cat sphinx, extends its tongue as a bridge, and finishes by stepping off a ledge over the desert.
How hard is Unfinished Business?
Hard. Stella calls the levels challenging even for expert players, with the same controls as the main game. The Gold edition on PC and Mac let players save anywhere, and in Remastered the "Restart Level" option on the passport restarts the level where Lara died. Secrets work as in the main game: ammunition, medi packs and sometimes a weapon, with no bonus for finding all of them. See Secrets and Tomb Raider Beginner Tips.
Where can you play it?
- Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, and since Mar 12, 2026 Switch 2, iOS and Android. That Mar 12, 2026 patch also fixed the achievement "The Business is Finished", which had unlocked after the second level instead of after all four.
- The 1996 game's iOS release of Dec 17, 2013 included the extra levels from the 1998 rerelease, though The Verge counted them as two levels.
- Steam and GOG copies of Tomb Raider I: Stella points to community instructions for adding the levels to them, so they are not part of those classic store versions out of the box.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis has said nothing about them as of Nov 2, 2026; its only announced extra is a Post-Launch DLC Story Pack whose content is not known.
