Tomb Raider Sales
Tomb Raider has sold over 100 million games, Crystal Dynamics said in October 2024, the figure behind Lara Croft's Guinness World Record as the best-selling videogame heroine. Tomb Raider (2013) is the best seller among the games with published figures, at 11 million by 2018, but Crystal Dynamics has not said which game sells best.
The Tomb Raider series has sold more than 100 million games: Crystal Dynamics announced in October 2024 that it had "officially reached over 100 million games sold across the franchise", a figure Guinness World Records lists as confirmed by Crystal Dynamics on Oct 11, 2024, making Lara Croft the best-selling videogame heroine. Of the games with published figures, Tomb Raider (2013) sold the most, 11 million by 2018, ahead of Tomb Raider 2 at close to 8 million and Tomb Raider (1996) at over 7 million. Crystal Dynamics has not said which game sells best, and no newer total has been published as of Nov 2, 2026.

How many copies has each Tomb Raider sold?
Only some games have owner or press figures, and each is a snapshot from the year it was given, not a lifetime total.
| Game | Copies | Who said it, and when |
|---|---|---|
| Tomb Raider (2013) | 11 million | Square Enix, 2018 |
| Tomb Raider 2 | Close to 8 million | GameSpot, 2026 |
| Tomb Raider (1996) | Over 7 million (7.5 million by Eurogamer's count) | Ian Livingstone, Eidos; Eurogamer, 2016 |
| Rise of the Tomb Raider | Over 7 million | Square Enix, 2018 |
| Shadow of the Tomb Raider | Slightly above 4 million, first four months | Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda, 2019 |
| Tomb Raider: Anniversary | 1.3 million | GameSpot, 2026 |

Rise's figure is worded two ways: "over seven million" in TheGamer's report of Square Enix's 2018 numbers, and "almost 7 million" in coverage quoting Matsuda; both come from the owner. Anniversary, a remake of the first game, was the series' commercial low point despite strong reviews.
Which Tomb Raider sold the most?
Among published figures, Tomb Raider (2013) at 11 million is the highest. That is not proof it is the best seller of all: the figures for the 1990s games are old, the Remastered collections have none, and Crystal Dynamics has not named a best seller. The 2013 reboot and its two sequels together made up 38 million of the 88 million total in May 2022, about 43%.
The series total over time
| When | Total | Who said it |
|---|---|---|
| Apr 2006 | Over 28 million | Eidos, at Legend's launch |
| May 2022 | Over 88 million | Scot Amos or Square Enix (reports differ), at the Embracer sale |
| Sep 2023 | More than 95 million | Crystal Dynamics |
| Oct 2024 | Over 100 million | Crystal Dynamics |

The May 2022 figures are attributed differently: 80.lv credits Crystal Dynamics' Scot Amos on a live stream, TheGamer a Square Enix timeline. That same release counted over 53 million paid downloads of the Lara Croft mobile games, and put the series' average on Metacritic at 81%. The 100 million milestone was announced alongside Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.
The Remastered collections
Neither Tomb Raider I-III Remastered nor IV-VI Remastered has a published unit figure as of Nov 2, 2026. Embracer reportedly said I-III performed above management's expectations, without a number. Third-party estimates from Steam data are not sales figures and are left out here.
Guinness World Records
Guinness has honored Lara several times for sales and fame:
- 2006: named the most successful video game heroine as the series passed 28 million games, with its licensing valued at over $1 billion.
- 2012: most official real-life stand-ins for a videogame character, 10 people.
- 2016: the largest gathering of people dressed as Lara, 270 cosplayers at Paris Games Week.
