Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (Tomb Raider 4, 1999) is Core Design's Egypt game, in which Lara Croft frees the god Set and must imprison him again, and which ends with her apparent death. Metacritic lists no critic score for it, but its users rate it 8.3.
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation is the fourth Tomb Raider game, released in November 1999 by Core Design and Eidos Interactive for PlayStation, PC and Dreamcast. Lara Croft uncovers a lost Egyptian tomb and accidentally frees the god Set, with her former mentor Werner Von Croy pursuing her across Egypt. It brought the series back to ancient ruins after the globe-trotting of Tomb Raider 2 and Tomb Raider 3, set almost all of its levels in one country, and ends with Lara buried in the Temple of Horus, so that the next game opens with her "missing in Egypt - presumed dead." Today it is part of Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.

What is The Last Revelation about?
Lara raids a tomb built for Set, takes an amulet, and in doing so lets the god loose; the rest of the game is the race to imprison him again, as Stella's Tomb Raider Site sets out the plot. Von Croy, whom Crystal Dynamics lists as her former mentor, is possessed in The Last Revelation and chases her throughout. The game opens in Cambodia in 1984, where a teenage Lara learns the basics from Von Croy in two training levels.

The levels are less linear than before and some need backtracking between them. There are 70 secrets in all, but the statistics screen never says how many a level holds, so only a guide tells you whether you missed one. In December 1999 The Times and Eidos also released an extra level set in Tutankhamun's tomb, the "Times Exclusive," per Stella.
What changed since Tomb Raider 3
Stella's guide lists the new pieces: combining inventory items, rope climbing and swinging, moving around corners, a choice between automatic and limited manual aiming, the return of the compass, and shorter loads between levels. Lara's model lost the blocky joints of the first three games.

Metacritic has no critic reviews listed for The Last Revelation on any platform, so it has no Metascore; its users rate it 8.3 from 28 ratings as of Nov 1, 2026. On Steam the PC original was Very Positive, 84% of 1,295 reviews, on Nov 1, 2026. Its ending mattered to the series: Tomb Raider Chronicles is built around Lara's memorial service, and The Angel of Darkness picks up the story after it. How to play it today
The PC original is on Steam as app 224980. Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered (Aspyr, Feb 14, 2025) collects it with Chronicles and The Angel of Darkness, the three games Crystal Dynamics calls the "Darkness Trilogy," on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC.
